The festivities are over, the New Year's resolutions have already been broken, the in-laws have all gone back to wherever it was they came from and the turkey has been licked to the bone. So what exactly do we have to look forward to? Well the adverts have been hitting our television screens since Boxing Day; it's time to start thinking about our annual holidays, and the sooner we can get away, the better. Thomson's will be building holidays with us in mind, you know who will be advising us 'don't just book it...' and First Choice will be reminding us just how many kids they taught to swim last year.
Found just off the coast of west Africa, Tenerife is the largest and most popular of the Canary Islands and is a Spanish territory. The island attracts young and old, families and groups, singles and romantics alike to it sunny shores and diverse landscapes.
The north of the island displays a dramatic, rocky coastline and is often slightly cloudier making the landscape more verdant with flourishing banana plantations and beautiful green scenery. The south of the island is more desert like and has a lunar like landscape with black volcanic sands mixing with imported golden grains on its many popular beaches.
The highest point in Spain can be found on Tenerife; Mount Teide stands proudly at 3,817m in height. Snow tipped in winter months it offers fantastic views and is visible from all over the island. The stunning Mount Teide National Park surrounds the volcano, and provides fascinating trails carved through the earth by previous eruptions of this magnificent volcano.
Holidays to Tenerife can offer great value for money, even though the Euro is currently weak against the pound, as many restaurants will have special offers and bars have daily happy hours which all help to make your holiday money go further. You may prefer your holidays to Tenerife to be all inclusive, in this case you will find some wonderful hotels with excellent facilities, children's clubs if you need them, great entertainment and usually fantastic stretches of private beach.
You can select from vibrant party towns such as Playa de las Americas on your holidays to Tenerife , or quiet traditional resorts. Los Cristianos is a favourite with water sports enthusiasts and to the north of the island, Puerto de la Cruz has a charming old fashioned outlook with plenty of modern facilities.
So book your holidays to Tenerife and get the New Year off to the best possible start you can.
